Description
An SPD protects electrical/electronic equipment from transient voltage spikes (surges), e.g. from lightning strikes, switching operations, or induction.
They divert the excess energy (surge) to ground or neutral, clamping voltage to a safer level.
Used in residential, commercial, industrial systems. Usually installed at service entrances/panels (“whole-house” or “whole facility” protection) and possibly cascaded (multiple SPDs in system hierarchy) for better protection.
